At first sight, Zwakman’s pictures look like documentary photographs: obviously landscapes, streets, lookouts, junctions. The book’s title leads to the truth: they are accurate fakes, pictures of model situations the artist builds in his studio. His meticulous simulations of real situations both test our perceptive faculty and reveal the artificiality of the real world around us.
